Dr. Ryan Rieser is an Adult Reconstruction (hip and knee replacement) Orthopedic Surgeon serving the Shenandoah Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine community. Dr. Rieser is American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery. He grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated as valedictorian while earning his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from North Carolina State University. He went on to obtain his Medical Doctorate from Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He went to complete his Preliminary Surgery Internship at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then chose to take the research track during his Orthopedic Residency training at the Level I Trauma Center in Dayton Ohio with Wright State University. He then completed his subspecialty training during his Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic, which included the Direct Anterior Approach to Total Hip Replacement.

Dr. Rieser has always enjoyed engineering and building. Orthopedics, especially adult reconstruction, gives him the opportunity to use his strengths to improve the lives of his patients. He finds it extremely rewarding to see his patients get up and move again and to hear about how they are able to get back to doing what they love.

Orthopedic Specialties

Dr. Rieser specializes in the direct anterior approach to total hip replacement, knee replacements, and hip and knee revisions. He also enjoys fracture work.

As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Rieser is dedicated to his patient’s entire joint replacement experience to include the preliminary education before surgery, minimizing pain around the time of surgery and to getting patients up and moving after the surgery so they may return to living their life as quickly as possible.

Outside of the office, Dr. Rieser loves spending time with his wife and 3 daughters. He also enjoys swimming, backpacking, and photography.
