Dr. Patrick Greenwell is an Orthopedic and Adult Reconstructive (hip and knee replacement) specialist serving the patients of the Shenandoah Valley and its surrounding communities. He is American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) Board Eligible in Orthopedics.

Dr. Greenwell graduated from Boston College in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He stayed in Baltimore to complete his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center & R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Dr. Greenwell then completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery in 2021 at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, which included the direct anterior hip approach as well as robotic assisted joint replacements.

Dr. Greenwell entered the field of Orthopedics because of its inherent nature of quickly fixing a problem. Whether it be an acute bone fracture or a chronic disease like arthritis, Dr. Greenwell feels privileged to offer his patients a solution that can relieve them of their pain and get them back to doing the things they love the most. He finds the field of Adult Reconstruction very rewarding and loves hearing from his patients about their hip or knee replacement.

Orthopedic Specialties

His specialty interests include hip and knee replacements, including cementless total knees as well as the direct anterior approach for total hips. He is dedicated to his patients throughout their entire course of care – from a surgeon-directed patient education clinic visit pre-operatively, to personal phone calls before and after the surgery, as well as personalizing their post-operative protocol to minimize pain and maximize movement/motion.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Greenwell enjoys spending time with his wife, Ariana, who is a Pediatric ENT physician at UVA. He also enjoys playing golf and tennis in the summer, as well as skiing in the winter.
